First Annual Character Awards Results Show, Part 5

Warning! May contain Mark of Athena spoilers!

Apollo: Hello, everyone! Welcome back to the Character Awards!

Hermes: Earlier, we made a minor mistake in announcing. One of us said that we would present the award for Coolest Child of the Big Three after the break. Well, that was an error. To make it up to you, we're going to present it now!

Apollo: The nominees are, of course:

Thalia Grace, daughter of Zeus
Perseus Jackson, son of Poseidon

Bianca_di_Angelo.jpg
Bianca di Angelo, daughter of Hades
Nico di Angelo, son of Hades

Hazel Levesque, daughter of Pluto

Jason Grace, son of Jupiter
Hermes: The winner is... Percy Jackson!

Apollo: Well, that kid just has it all, doesn't he?

Hermes: It would appear so. Well, how about we break the news to him and Annabeth?

Apollo: (gestures to screen behind him) Give a nice, warm welcome to Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase, appearing to you from Tartarus!

(Percy and Annabeth appear on screen in background. They look worn-down, startled, confused, and relieved.)

Percy: What is going on?

Annabeth: Is that Apollo? Hold on, who's the other god?

Percy: Annabeth, that's Hermes.

Hermes: Little insulted you didn't recognize me.

Annabeth: Sorry, Lord Hermes. But what's going on?

Hermes: You just won awards at the First Annual Character Awards!

Percy: Really? Sweet!

Apollo: Annabeth, you have won Most Relatable Character and Best Leader.

Hermes: Percy, you have won The Complete BOSS, Coolest Child of the Big Three, and Best of the Seven.

(Percy's and Annabeth's faces light up with joy)

Apollo: And you have both won... FAVORITE CANON SHIP!

(Audience explodes with applause and cheers)

Annabeth: Seaweed Brain, this is awesome!

Percy: (shrugs) Yeah, I guess it's cool. I mean, that people like us together. But let them think what they want. I'm fine, as long as we're together. I don't care what other people think about us.

Annabeth: Aww, Percy! (her eyes tear up as she gives him a meaningful kiss on the cheek)

(The Audience cheers as the couple smiles at each other. Aphrodite jumps up from her seat, sobbing uncontrollably while still cheering them on. Poseidon beams, content that his son is happy. Athena claps lightly, still not approving of their relationship.)

Apollo: We'll leave you two lovebirds alone. (winks)

Hermes: Good luck down there! (waves as Percy and Annabeth disappear from the screen)

Apollo: We'll be back after this short break!

SoM Promo Pictures & Collider Preview

Warning! May contain Sea of Monsters and Last Olympian spoilers!

The following pictures have been released to promote the upcoming movie adaption of The Sea of Monsters.

Let's talk about these. I really like the picture of Percy and Annabeth, however the second picture is a bit of a problem for me. And no, I have no problem with "reach twenty against all odds". That is understandable. Percy already looks sixteen in the first movie, so keeping it at sixteen wouldn't be a very clever idea. My problem is: why are they introducing the Great Prophecy so early? That's not supposed to happen! Other than that, the pictures are pretty cool. I never thought of Clarisse as someone who would keep a journal...

The second thing I wanted to point out was this article I stumbled upon. The person who wrote it watched the first half of the movie already. It's spoiler-free beyond what the trailers show. It has some interesting things in it, so you should go check that out! http://collider.com/percy-jackson-sea-of-monsters-preview/

That's all for now! :)

POVs in House of Hades

Warning! Contains Mark of Athena spoilers!

 Hi there, demigods!

The other day on Twitter, Rick Riordan wrote:
"RT: please tell me Nico gets a POV in The House of Hades./Already PLENTY of POVs, so no. But he has a big part."
Well, I guess all of the Nico point of view theories have been debunked from that one simple tweet. Sorry, Nico lovers.

However, this did get me thinking. Who will the POVs be? I've already given you my opinion on who I want them to be, but who will they be? (My opinion is in this post)

 I think they'll be:

  1. Annabeth
  2. Hazel
  3. Jason
  4. Frank
Annabeth is one of the two in Tartarus, and RR has used Percy's POV for 7 books. I think that he might see it as Annabeth's time to shine.

Hazel, Jason, and Frank didn't have a POV in Mark of Athena, and I think it's as simple as that. Uncle Rick probably wants to split it up equally... at least I would, if I were in his position. It only makes sense that he would do that.

The people have to be one of the Seven, so the ones that I said make the most sense. (I could be wrong. That's always a possibility.) Also, the four I predicted balances out the number of guys and the number of girls.

That was a pretty short, simple post, but I feel that I owe it to you. So... Happy birthday, even if it isn't your birthday. xD

House of Hades Cover Reveal and ANALYSIS!

Warning! May contain Mark of Athena spoilers!

Yesterday morning, Rick Riordan unveiled the cover for The House of Hades, the fourth book in the Heroes of Olympus series. The UK cover was also released. Here they are...

First, I want to comment on how beautiful the artwork is on both covers. The detail and color schemes are absolutely stunning. I applaud the artists.

I'll begin by comparing the two covers. The covers definitely differ in illustration style, but I won't get into all of that. The two obviously show different scenes (I would assume), and Percy and Annabeth are in two very different states. Oh, and the UK cover has a few words to make it more dramatic.

Okay, American cover first (after all, it's where I live, I kinda have a responsibility to it xD). I'm going to take a wild guess and guess that they're in Tartarus. The flowy white strands are most likely still spider webs from the Arachne incident. It's possible that they're magically un-cuttable, right?

There are some winged monsters visible in the top left corner. Some people think they're Furies, but I don't think they can be, because I see four of them, and there are only three Furies. (If you view the picture in full size, you can see more details.)

Also, what are Percy and Annabeth WEARING? That doesn't look like their clothing that they were wearing pre-fall torn up. Either (A) they had to make makeshift clothing, or (B) Tartarus is a literal prison... with uniforms. (credit: x

I'm also wondering what the rectangular thing being held up by chains is... Possibly one of the Doors?

The final thing that I'd like to point out is the fact that Percy is looking back. I've read theories that it may be a reference to the myth of Orpheus, which you can read by clicking here. I'm really hoping that isn't true, but you never really know with Uncle Rick. I feel like putting that on the cover as a hint would make it TOO obvious, you know? The PJO fandom really knows their Greek myths.

Now: UK cover! The first thing I noticed was... well, obviously the big scary fiery thing. But besides that, Percy's and Annabeth's... perfection. What? They're wearing clean clothing mid-battle! The setting is filled with lava/fire/smoke, and they're in pristine condition! Annabeth's hair is straightened and amazingly beautiful and clean, plus her ankle looks fine. Percy looks like he's in perfect physical condition. If they're in a landscape like that, they should look terrible... shouldn't they? I'm wondering if this was a mistake on the artist's part, or if they actually, legitimately look like this at some point. Does Tartarus have rest-and-refresh stops or something? Or maybe this scene occurs after they find everyone else and they get into the House of Hades or something. I honestly am not sure, but there has to be something to explain it.

NOW LET'S TALK ABOUT THE BIG FIERY THING. Well, it's big. It's fiery. It's wearing armor. It has red eyes. P & A are preparing themselves to fight it. AAAANNNNDDDDD...... I have no idea what it is! :D

The last thing I choose to speak of is the caption-type thing that the UK covers tend to have, and the US covers lack. "Percy Jackson's Deadliest Adventure Yet": REALLY? He's in a giant chasm in the Underworld and he's in danger? Whoa. I can't believe it. This is news. Yes, the caption is obvious, but I'm guessing it's simply there for dramatic effect... British tend to lean toward drama more than Americans. (BBC, anyone?)

Well, that's it! Leave your opinions/ideas in the comment section. :)

*Blogger's Note: Worry not, The Character Awards will resume soon! (Expect them around June 7th-8th.) I have a ton of ideas for other posts that I'd like to also get to, so I'm putting that off just for a little bit. :)

Sea of Monsters Trailer #2!

Warning! May contain Sea of Monsters spoilers!

Hey! I'm just checking in with you for a very special post... My analysis of the second Sea of Monsters trailer!

First, watch it here:

OKAY, now analysis time! It's easier for me if I just make some bullet points here instead of writing in paragraph format. So here goes (I am writing this as I watch the trailer for the fifth time in the last 20 minutes xD):

  • Hey, it got a rating! PG! (I actually typed "PJO" instead of "PG" at first, haha.) Not that it matters to me, really. I'd see it anyway if it were rated G or PG-13 or whatever. It's Percy Jackson, for goodness' sake!
  • I love how "Anaklusmos" is on the handle of Riptide, and the little trident at the bottom is a nice touch.
  • What is all this talk about an annihilation prophecy? Are they talking about the Great Prophecy already? It's kind of early, don't you think?
  • I'm not sure how I feel about this new actor for Chiron, but I've only seen a few seconds of his acting, so I don't think I'm in the proper position to give a valid opinion (yet).
  • The forcefield physically breaking seems a little dramatic, and the bronze bull looks very frightening, but very awesome. As it should be, of course.
  • LUKE! HE'S NOT ACTUALLY DEAD!
  • I'm wondering about that shiny green thing in Luke's hand... Maybe it's something he acquired from Kronos?
  • From the trailer clips that have been released so far, Dionysus seems much more serious than a god of partying should be. His demeanor is much more... intimidating? Strong? Not laid-back? Hm. But he doesn't look lazy enough to be Dionysus.
  • The Chariot of Damnation scene looks amazingly done and totally crazy, as it should be. I guess it could be comparable to the Knight Bus from Harry Potter (with the crazy driver/supernatural vehicle elements), but the words "comparable to Harry Potter" shall not be uttered on this blog, because we all know that never ends well.
  • Hermes is literally my favorite character in this trailer. Love him. "Oh no! Not in here! ...Not in here."
  • They changed the release date on us! August 7th is the official date now. Mark your calendars!
  • No Annabeth, those aren't sharks. Those are Charybdis's teeth. I thought she was supposed to be a Daughter of Athena...?
  • Hermes's family line. I see that they kept that in there, which pleases me immensely.
  • Thalia!!!! (It actually took me a while to figure out that was her!)
  • I'm really confused about the big red scary thing with horns. I have absolutely no idea what that is supposed to be.
  • OKAY MOVIE PEOPLE, GIVE TYSON HIS TIME TO SHINE. LET HIM HAVE HIS MOMENT WITH THE COLCHIS BULLS. OKAY? WHY ARE YOU TAKING AWAY TYSON'S MOMENT?
  • Speaking of Tyson, in case anyone's wondering, Tyson has two eyes at some points [most likely] because he's in areas with mortals and the Mist is shielding his Cyclops eye.
  • When exactly did Riptide become a throwing knife? Sheesh.
Anyways, that's all I'm going to say. I'm not going to proofread this, so if there are typos or anything, you know why. I have some exams to study for, so I'll leave any other analyses to you guys! Feel free to comment and share your opinions and ideas. (I love hearing them!) :)

Character Awards Update

Hey, guys! I just wanted to let you know that I probably won't be posting Part 5 of the results show anytime soon. I have finals coming up later this week, so I've been trying to focus on that. They're over on May 31st, so I'll probably be able to pick it up sometime during the first week of June. Of course, I will definitely be doing a House of Hades cover analysis when it comes out on the 31st (!!!!!!!!!), so part 5 should be up sometime after that. I'm sorry to keep you waiting, but I just don't have enough time.
