Can the makers of the Sea of Monsters (movie) still salvage the plot of the series?

Warning! May contain Lightning Thief, Sea of Monsters, and Battle of the Labyrinth spoilers!

Whoa! I can't believe it's been over a week since my last post! I've been so hard at work on this one, and at studying for midterm exams, that I didn't even notice how long it had been since I had actually published a post. Now, before I begin my rambling, I'd like to share with you this amazing new blog: percyjacksonforlife.blogspot.com. I myself am guilty of stalking it, and I look at its new posts every day. I love this blog a LOT, and if you'd like to read a blog that has more frequent posts (it's not really hard to beat me on that), this is perfect! (You know, not that it's not already perfect) It is, by far, my favorite blog, and it's the best Percy Jackson blog I've seen. Go check it out!

Now, back to topic. As you all [should] know, the movie adaptation of The Sea of Monsters wrapped filming last summer and is set for release later this year (August 16th, 2013). I'm sure that plenty of you are frustrated because of the mess that they called The Lightning Thief. Everyone that I talk to has a different stance on it, but the one thing that everyone seems to agree on is that they'll definitely be seeing the sequel. Some say that it's just for laughs, but most say that they honestly want to see what the makers of the movie will do with what they have. The real question is: Can the overall series plot still be salvaged? I've been thinking a lot about this. These are my thoughts on the matter.

First, let's consider the differences in the movie. The big one is definitely age difference (No, Annabeth fans, it's NOT hair color. That's already been fixed.), which, face it, is not able to be fixed. Obviously, the prophecies will have to be reworded, especially the great prophecy. (Percy looks way over sixteen already, and it's only the second movie!) Of course, that's providing that they choose to include those.

The second biggest difference is the entire plot, but probably even more importantly, Luke's [movie] death. How is Luke going to become Kronos if he's dead? Worry not, fellow demigods! Jake Abel has been included in the SoM cast listing, and there are photos of him on-set. Apparently he's magically alive again! I've heard a theory about how they may explain him being alive, and also Kronos, and I pretty much agree with it. Someone (I can't give credit, because this was a while ago) proposed the idea that Luke could have made a special deal with Kronos to let Kronos merge with him later in the series as he entered the Underworld, giving Luke a longer lifespan and the power to overthrow the gods and build a new world, like Luke wanted. This is also a way of introducing Kronos to the movie's viewers.

Another thing: Thalia. She wasn't even MENTIONED in the first movie! (They actually did bring her up, but the scene was later cut, which really baffles me.) Thalia has been cast, and she will be in the movie, but how are they going to explain a daughter of Zeus randomly popping up from a tree? My guess is that she will be mentioned at some point in the movie, and then she'll come back to life in the end. That's also when the credits will most likely start to roll... Cliffhangers keep people watching future movies!

The next big factor: Clarisse. I feel like movie Annabeth was a combination of book Annabeth and book Clarisse. It's almost scary. O_O Anyways, Leven Rambin (AKA Glimmer from the Hunger Games) landed the role of her, and I think that she can pull it off. Just look at her hostile role in The Hunger Games: someone with a role like that makes a perfect Clarisse! One thing that I'm wondering though, is how we're going to meet movie Clarisse, and if she'll be any different than book Clarisse. Personally, I find the whole noticing-them-while-they're-in-or-practicing-for-battle thing to be really tiresome, so I hope that it's not how she shows up, but it's possible. We may be introduced to her as a camper that Percy is already familiar with; after all, there was still summer left after The Lightning Thief took place, and SoM takes place almost a full year later. It could just be Percy going back to camp and bumping into her. Actually, I'm mostly leaning toward this, because it makes the most sense (to me, at least).

Something else that we weren't introduced to in the first movie was the concept of demigod dreams and their power and truth value. We all know that Percy's dreams, and Grover and Percy's empathy link, were what kept Percy informed of Grover's whereabouts and well-being. This will have to be introduced or omitted from the movie... Introduced would probably be the best choice.

If they end up following what I just outlined (which is highly unlikely, actually--these are just hunches/ideas), then most, or even all, of the problems should be ironed out, and they could most likely go on with the series with very few problems. There are still a lot more improving and changes to be done than what I outlined. We'll just have to see what the movie people do with it!

The Sea of Monsters Movie Updates

Hey there, half-bloods!
HAPPY NEW YEAR! :D

I haven't posted much lately. Hopefully, this will make up for everything that I didn't post. Believe it or not, this blog turned one year old two days ago! *throws confetti in the air* YAY! :D

In other news, I wanted to share some things about the Sea of Monsters movie. I haven't really posted about it in a while, with the Mark of Athena release and my aftershock and everything, so I thought now would be a good time to let you know what's going on with it. Heck, I didn't even know what was going on with it until I wrote this post!

Percy and Annabeth. That's all I know. (Source: http://www.fansshare.com/media/content1/550x298_alexandra-daddario-talks-percy-jackson--sea-of-monsters-1505.jpg)
I'm pretty sure that, on this blog, we've already discussed Annabeth being blonde, Clarisse and Thalia being cast, Chiron's actor being changed, the new director, etc. In this post, we'll discuss some things that we haven't discussed, and re-discuss things that we already have.

First: Release date. At first, the expected SoM release date was in March of this year, but it was later pushed back and everyone got confused. According to what I found from a simple Google search, the US release date is August 16th, 2013, and the UK release date is August 14th, 2013.

Next thing... The movie plotline. Alexandra Daddario (AKA Annabeth) stated in an interview that the movie makers were trying to follow and refer to the book a little bit more than they did in the first movie. How much? That's for us to find out in August. Right now, we can just hope for the best. Now, don't expect a mirror image; they're going to have to change some things to fix the mistakes, erm... modifications (as they call them in Hollywood), that they made in the first movie.

Another thing that I read online that I'm not quite sure about is about the film being converted into 3D. I honestly don't think that I'll watch it in 3D if it is in 3D (I haven't watched any of the Harry Potter movies like that), but that's me. I don't know whether or not this is true, but we can hope.

To wrap up this post, I'd like to give you a little YouTube video you can fangirl/fanboy over. Courtesy of my wonderful friend who showed it to me. :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcHS40v06QM

Solstice & Thalia

If you didn't already know, yesterday was a rather important day in Percy's world... The Winter Solstice! So... Happy Solstice! Oh, and we didn't die. YAY!

And, more importantly (in my mind), today is our very own Thalia Grace's BIRTHDAY!!!! It's not like she'll be getting any older, but why not celebrate? :) Also, yesterday marks the day that Thalia became a Hunter of Artemis to prevent the Great Prophecy from starting.

She's forever 15! (Take that, Forever 21!)

Winter Fun

 Hey guys!

Before I start, I must explain myself. I'd just like to say that I don't post on here unless:
  1. I have a random thought/realization/epiphany,
  2. something important happens (a new book comes out, Rick Riordan hints at something in a future book, etc),
  3. I get a comment that catches my eye,
  4. something important is announced (release date, tour dates, etc), or
  5. I do personally something related to PJO/HoO/TKC.

That would explain my lack of posts... but I'm back now! I did something that would fall into the category of #5.

Here in my lovely home of the northern (but not too far north) United States, about a week or two ago, we got an few inches of snow. It wasn't really much to brag about, but snow is snow, right?

Naturally, I wanted to go out and do something with it: make a fort, build a snowman, throw some snowballs, but, as I said, we didn't quite have enough snow to do that. Instead, I decided to write something, once with my finger, and once with my boot-prints. :)

Long time, no see? + Response to comment

Warning! May contain Mark of Athena spoilers!

I'M SORRY, OKAY? I abandoned you. How long has it been? A few days? A week? Oh my goodness. Two weeks? :o

I shall hide my face in shame.

But, anyway. I got a comment on a post. The comment was written by Chuka O., and it says:
"so i have read the book and its freakingly awesome,i jus wanted to know whether i you think jason and percy are kinda equal in power seeing they both contributed the same amount of help in the journey. also i feel like leo is my best character so if you could possibly share your views on him and who you think hazel would rather pick"
Yes, the book was pretty flipping awesome. As for everything else, I'll break it down.

Jason and Percy: Equal in power? Sure, I'd say that. Their powers are very different, but I'd call them about equal.

Leo: LEO LEO LEO LEO LEO LEO LEO LEO LEO LEOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *_* Leo is and forever will be my hugest fictional crush. I love him and I love his humor, sarcasm, and the fact that he's serious when he needs to be. (e.g. He's funny when he's hanging out with Jason and Piper, or he kids around on quests to lighten the mood, but he takes the task of building the Argo II seriously.) I just love him so much. He's probably my favorite male character. TEAM LEO 5EVER!

Who Hazel Will Pick: Frankfrankfrankfrankfrankfrankfrankfrankfrankfrankfrankfrank. I have SO many  problems with Leo and Hazel dating. First of all, Leo is mine. Second of all, LEO IS HAZEL'S FLIPPING DEAD BOYFRIEND'S FLIPPING GREAT-GRANDSON. Third of all, Frank and Hazel are already dating, plus they know each other better. And last, but certainly not least, they belong together! End. of. story.
Oh, you ask me who I think Hazel will pick? Well, that's a different story. It depends on what kind of mood Troll Rick is in the day that he writes it, or on the day that he outlined it. If he is/was in a bad mood, he probably will write/wrote in Leo and Hazel as canon. If he is/was in a good mood, he will make/made Frank and Hazel canon. But honestly? I think Frank and Hazel will become canon.
